We are 6 2 7!! - Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Cub Scout Pack 627

If you are considering joining Cub Scouts, congratulations! You've made a smart move for your child. Scouting reinforces character concepts like honesty, loyalty, and good citizenship. Pack 627 takes these concepts to heart in our programs. Scouting is a game with a purpose. We at Pack 627 fully enjoy ourselves and are proud to provide a quality, active, and family fun program to families at Woodland Schools across Gurnee, Grayslake, and Wildwood, IL.

To begin your Scouting adventures register online and contact us at:joinpack627

Not quite ready to register? We will happily answer any questions you might have about Scouting, our Pack, and how you can get a new Scout enrolled. Email us at the address above and let us know a contact number and the best time to call you and we can chat directly.

Pack 627 is the largest Scouting unit in the Gurnee area with over 40 Scouts involved in our programs. Our size allows us to do a number of things differently than other packs which are typically sized anywhere from 12-35 families. One key difference is that we subsidize a majority of our program events almost entirely from the success of our annual popcorn sales & wreath sales fundraisers. Fees are typically limited to Outings for those attending to cover food & facilities costs. All that is asked is that the scouts & families actively participate, volunteer time to help with events, and do their best to help with the fundraisers or ensure costs are covered.

Pack 627 is a very organized and well run Pack that loves to have lots of fun. Our Pack programs numerous events to give our families every opportunity to balance participation in Scouts with other interests such as sports, clubs, or other pursuits that lead to busy schedules. Our size affords us the ability to ensure that there are always a good number of Scouts that attend these events so everyone can enjoy the activities we provide. All our functions are designed to be family focused and inclusive--all siblings are welcome to join the Scouts at our events and have fun! We have over 20 volunteer adult Leaders in our Pack engaged to deliver these programs, and trained on how best to do so. The large number of active Leaders we have (the largest of any area Pack!) not only ensures we have adequate supervision for our Scouts, but also helps prevent our volunteers from getting burnt out and to ensure a consistency to our programs over the time your Scout will be participating. It is another great aspect of having such a large number of families involved in our program!

Pack 627 holds Pack meetings (with all the grade levels) typically on the 3rd Monday of every month at Woodland Middle School, with Den Meetings (smaller groups of boys and girls in the same grade) held twice each month on a weeknight that fits best with the availability of the families that make up that Den. Cub Scouts is available for children in Kindergarten through the fifth grade to join, and children with special needs can participate at whatever level the parents feel is best for them. We are now welcoming girls into our program as well. Families can join us for events before then with no commitment or cost! Contact us for more info.

Pack Rocket Launch is POSTPONED at Woodland Elementary East Playground Field - New Families Welcome!

Posted on Aug 24 2019 - 6:56am

WE'VE HAD TO POSTPONE THE LAUNCH DUE TO WEATHER. WILL NOW BE BEFORE THE PACK MEETING SUNDAY AUGUST 25 AT WOODLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL. Pack 627 invites all families interested in joining our Pack for Scouting this fall to attend our Model Rocket Launch on Sunday, August 25 from 11am-1pm at Woodland Middle School Sports Fields

We will give each parent & child pair a FREE model rocket to snap together and build, decorate, and prepare to launch that same day! Come meet some of the families in our Pack, get any questions you have about our program answered, you can even sign up your child for them to become a Scout right on the launch pad.

Never launched a model rocket before?? Don't worry... this isn't rocket science!! Our beginner kits snap together in minutes and we'll have everything you need to get your rocket ready, a trained crew that will load the kits with the engine it needs for blastoff, and skilled Boy Scouts on hand to help with the countdown as your child hits the button to ignite the rocket. As the rocket returns to Earth via parachute, your child will run to (hopefully) recover it for a second launch... assuming it makes it back from near-space and doesn't head straight for the moon, of course.

Pack 627 is a Family Scouting Pack -- BOYS AND GIRLS in Kindergarten thru 5th grade are welcome to join us and participate in this event and register with us for more Scouting Adventures.

Park in the east side of the north parking lot at the Middle School.

Contact us by email atif you should have any questions, and to let us know if you will attend.

Posted on Aug 7 2019 - 11:32pm

UPDATE: What a great night under the stars. Look for us to repeat this experience again next summer!

Join us for an exciting night out under the stars in nearby Union Grove, WI.

Weather permitting, we will coordinate an Astronomy Night for any interested Scouts up at the Modine-Benstead Observatory. We will do activities relative to STEM/NOVA Awards.

The open house event is run by the Racine Astronomical Society which allows access to the big dome telescopes and several other telescopes on the ground pointing at various objects in the night sky. They are very knowledgable, and it is a great event! Depending on what is up each night, we will view the moon, planets, and many deep sky objects.

Click HERE for more info & to register so you can be included on the email list for this event in case a cancellation notice needs to be sent.

Scouting for Food Drive at March Pack Meeting 3/18

Posted on Mar 12 2019 - 10:08pm

A reminder that we're hoping your family will bring in some non-perishable food items to the Pack Meeting on Monday, March 18 to contribute to our Scouting for Food campaign. This is part of the annual national Boy Scouts of America campaign where Scouts are asked to go and collect non-perishable food from their neighbors to be turned in to local food pantries to help the less fortunate.

If you and your Scout would like to pitch in, this coming weekend's warmer weather is the perfect time! Please have your Scout wear his uniform when representing Scouting.

Thank you for assisting with this Scouting Service Project. Giving back to the community is something all Scouts are encouraged to do. More Service Projects are coming soon, as well!
